With the new materials from Cricut and the Print Then Cut update in Cricut Design Space it’s a breeze to make labels for our annual canning!
Cutting YOUR Images in Shapes
To have your image uploads into Cricut Design Space cut in to shapes you either have to work them into a shape in the Basic Upload steps, or have them in a shape with a transparent background before you bring them into Cricut Design Space.
In this video we show you how to use the free image editing application GIMP to make your photo into a circle, ready to cut for canning labels in Cricut Design Space.
New Materials from Cricut
Not only are there so many exciting new features with the Print Then Cut update, there are also new products from Cricut.

- Cricut Printable Vinyl – this ia a pack of 10 8.5″ x 11″ sheets of vinyl that you can run through your printer!
You can really let your imagination run away with what you can do with the Print Then Cut update and these great new materials. The real secret though is that with these products and Print Then Cut it makes quickly assembling a stunning card or design a breeze! These are going to be real time savers!
A reminder for the sizes that work out best for your labels to the lids of your canning jars.
- Widemouth jars: 2.5″
- Regular jars: 2″
The dill pickles and hot salsa we canned this year will look great! Hope they taste as good as they look!
GIMP Image Editor
Only download applications from their official sites! Other sites may not have your best interests at heart. These applications are freely distributed products, you should never have to buy them to use them. Both sites can be quite slow at times, so be patient.
- Get GIMP at: http://www.gimp.org – The ‘Downloads’ link will take you to automatically to the Windows or Mac OS X installers depending on what you are using. We recommend using the link …”from gimp.org”
This is the free software we used in our videos because anyone can get it to use. If you have Adobe Photoshop, or other applications you are comfortable with which do similar things you are more than welcome to use those. The terms may not be exactly the same, but the concepts can still be applied in other applications with the same tools.
